While war and Covid factors are keeping tourists from traditional markets such as China and Russia away from Vietnam, the one-month visa policy does not help, readers said.

Reality is that Vietnamese tourism has to live from Vietnamese tourists for a long time to come! The war in Europe, inflation will bite in everybody's purse! China, nobody knows and Russia becomes a mess. On top of that the not so friendly visa requirements and you get the perfect storm.

The keyword is diversification - as an old proverb tells: Do not put all eggs in one basket. There is need to develop product what fits to all markets, and need to focus on quality not quantity, quality service for quality visitors. It was simple to work for low demanding Russian tourists with very basic needs - warm weather, beach, cheap beer or other alcohol - most time in Nha Trang they were just spending time on beach. Chinese group travelers were also quite simple.

As far as restaurants and cosmopolitan cuisine available Nha Trang has hurtled back to the 1990's.The short visa that is the one only available has been the final nail in canceling a once thriving industry --- moneyed expats are now rarer than unicorns.

We are interested in visiting Vietnam. The current visa of 30 days makes it difficult, we have 3 months and so far have had to go out to Thailand and come back then will need to go out again. It's just not realistic so we will go somewhere else for our last month.

There are millions of tourists waiting to come if they get 90 days visas with extended visas if they want to stay longer. Europe and America winter months, they want to come to warm weather.
