Readers welcomed Vietnam's plan to fine people for littering or urinating on the streets, but have doubt about the implementation.

"Love it. Finally. Hopefully it gets enforced."

"Good. Now it would be nice to understand WHO will fine these transgressors."

"Good if it's executed too, but the basic should be awareness of the people and put more waste bins along the roads."

"Never ever can solve a problem without the resources to make the plan work. What is expected of the people when there are few public toilets or rubbish removal sites. Where can used building materials be dumped? Where are the sewerage systems. Without proper infrastructure making laws to fine the people is just a money grab. That's if there are anyone going to police the laws. The road beautification leading into Nha Trang, millions spent and will look fantastic in the meridian strip but framed each side of the roads full of rubbish and used building materials."

"Will something be done finally to curb the garbage in the streets. One can only hope so as the situation is going out of hand. Even places like Da Lat or Bao Loc are full of it. When I step out of my house I see the garbage piling up everywhere. What a shame. For a people that says to love their country so much one can question this thoroughly when you look at the condition of the public places."
