As Vietnam's largest island is dealing with a tourism crisis with crashing visitor numbers, readers suggested that it transform itself by returning beaches to the public.

"Phu Quoc should build a beautiful road that runs along the beach. That road should be the highlight of Phu Quoc and all infrastructure planning should follow it."
Khanh Thuan

"Currently Phu Quoc is only suitable for people staying at resorts. All these resorts have made the beach their own property and tourists who don't stay at resorts would have nothing to enjoy. In the downtown area, access to the beach has also been blocked by houses and offices. If Phu Quoc wants to attract more tourists, it must make the beach more open."
Hoang Chien

"Coastal cities in central Vietnam take public beaches seriously. Nha Trang, for example, leaves almost the entire beach along its main street Tran Phu open to the public. That has created a beautiful scene that attracts tourists."
Dhphucs

"Phu Quoc should focus on fixing its price gouging, improving its services, giving its shopping areas a facelift, and developing public transport. Then it will see tourist crowds again."
