Searches regarding Vietnam-related tourism from Chinese tourists during the recent Lunar New Year holiday recovered almost to pre-pandemic levels, reaching 95% of the holiday in 2020, Agoda data indicated.

Ho Chi Minh City was the most searched city by Chinese tourists, followed by Hanoi, Nha Trang, Da Nang and Phu Quoc, according to a report by the online platform.

Chinese tourists showed the most interest in Vietnam in the Tet breaks of 2020 before pandemic lockdowns were imposed mid-year and lasted for nearly two years.

Due to cautious border reopening, 2022 and 2023 witnessed only 3% of 2020 search levels, the report revealed.

"The resurgent interest from visitors from our northern neighbor provides a positive sign for visitor trends in the Year of the Dragon," said Vu Ngoc Lam, director of Agoda in Vietnam.

Figures of tourist arrivals in Vietnam during the holiday are not available yet.

Chinese tourists were Vietnam’s second-biggest tourism market last year, at 1.74 million.
