Reader SonNguyen_MS gave three reasons why, after several decades of working in the city, one should return to their hometown to build a house and live happily.
"I find it reasonable to return to my hometown to build a house and enjoy my old age. Firstly, the hustle and bustle, noise, and pollution (smoke, dust, noise) in the city are not good for the elderly.
Second, during your working years, you don’t know what events lie ahead, so buying a house then forces you to be constrained within an area.
Third, the mindset of working hard to buy a house in the city over many generations is the main reason why real estate prices in the city are increasing."
In contrast, reader Hoang An believes that leaving the city at old age and returning to the countryside is not ideal:
"At that time, one’s closest relatives would be their children, who are staying in the city. The countryside will have changed after many years, and few friends would remain. Relatives one rarely meets would also lose attachment.
Additionally, older people have many health issues. Would they have to run to the city for treatment every time they get sick?
The most productive period of my life, 30 years, was spent in the city, and my children will also be in the city. Could it be that during those 30 years, the city was only considered temporary? Is the place where I have spent 30 years of my life just temporary?"
What is your opinion about leaving the city in old age and returning to the countryside for retirement?
