The metro line, extending across the city, isn't just a mode of transport; it's a pivotal solution to urban congestion, pollution, and lengthy commutes.

One of our readers, Nham Dinh Dinh, noted the rising rents in her area: "My husband and I rent an apartment for VND7 million (US$275) per month, which is about to increase to VND8.5 million ($334). Although the cost is rising, the convenience provided by the metro line compensates for the hike. The metro allows us to bypass the morning and evening rush, adverse weather conditions, and fine dust. It’s also safer than navigating the city on a motorbike."
Over the past year, apartments along the metro line have seen a price increase between 15% and 40%, with values nearly doubling over the last five years. An expert in urban development attributed this to the metro's role in enhancing urban connectivity, thereby increasing property values. The metro not only reduces traffic congestion but also connects various parts of the city more efficiently, providing a safer and more convenient travel option.
This connectivity has spurred property price hikes along the metro route. Another reader, Quang Tan, shared his perspective: "A metro ticket across the line costs just VND20,000 (less than $1) for an 18 km journey, compared to VND270,000 by taxi. The metro enhances the appeal of properties in Thu Duc by improving local transportation and reducing commuting costs, attracting more businesses and offices to the area and mitigating central city congestion."
With the metro operational for just three months, significant improvements in air quality in central HCMC are anticipated. If it transports 100,000 passengers daily, tens of thousands of personal vehicles will be removed from the roads. This reduction in vehicles not only decreases congestion but also enhances the overall flow of traffic, enabling smoother and faster commutes for personal vehicle users.
As Thu Duc becomes more accessible and its transportation more efficient, the area is set to become a new hub for both residential and commercial growth in Ho Chi Minh City.
