Two people in the central Binh Dinh Province were killed by rubbles on Wednesday during the construction of an expressway running through Phu My District.

Nguyen Toan, 55, and Duong Cong Tan, 51, were workers from the Thuan Hung Company, a contractor of the Son Hai Corporation, which is the construction unit for the expressway.

As they were moving around equipment for the construction of the project's subterranean electrical systems, Toan and Tan were buried by rubbles. Fellow workers tried to call for help and dig them up, but they did not make it.

A representative of the My Hiep Commune People's Committee said there have been heavy rains in the area over the last few days, leading to erosion and landslide at the construction site. Authorities have been informed so work safety conditions at the site could be evaluated.

The Quang Ngai-Hoai Nhon expressway, spanning 88 km, runs through Quang Ngai and Binh Dinh, with a total investment capital at VND20 trillion. The project is expected to enter operation in the third quarter of 2026.
