The unidentified woman tripped over her suitcase while using the walkway at around 8:30 a.m., and her leg got caught, Bangkok Post newspaper quoted the airport’s general manager, Karant Thanakuljeerapat, as saying.
Medical staff rushed to her aid and took her to a nearby hospital where an emergency amputation had to be done on her left leg, The Nation newspaper reported.
Her condition is not known.
Following the tragedy, the airport closed the walkway and ordered an investigation.
Thanakuljeerapat said walkways are inspected daily, and the one causing the accident had been certified as ready for use that day.
The airport’s 20 walkways were installed by Japan’s Hitachi in 1996, and are maintained regularly, he added.
