Vietnam's Covid tally nears 3 million after highest single-day count

Vietnam on Thursday recorded 69,119 new local Covid-19 cases, bringing the infection tally since the pandemic broke out to 2,984,369.

It is the third day in the row where Vietnam recorded its highest single-day infection tally of all time. On Wednesday it recorded 60,338 new cases and on Tuesday it recorded 55,871 cases.

The three localities with the highest numbers of new cases on Thursday are Hanoi with 8,864 cases, Bac Giang with 4,171 cases and Hai Duong with 2,948 cases, all in northern Vietnam.

111 deaths were added to the national database on Thursday, with 26 cases in Hanoi, eight in Da Nang, seven in Thai Nguyen, five each in Dak Lak, Nghe An and Quang Ngai, three each in Bac Giang, Binh Dinh, Kien Giang, Nam Dinh and Quang Binh, two each in Dak Nong, Ha Nam, Hai Phong, Hoa Binh, Lao Cai, Phu Tho, Quang Ninh, Tra Vinh, Tuyen Quang, Bac Lieu, Binh Phuoc, Cao Bang, Dien Bien and Dong Nai, and one each in Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Bac Ninh, Ben Tre, Binh Duong, Ca Mau, Dong Thap, Gia Lai, Khanh Hoa, Lam Dong, Lang Son, Long An and Vinh Long.

19,062 Covid-19 patients were announced recovered on Thursday, bringing the total number of recovered cases to 2,339,784.

70.8 million adults have received at least on Covid-19 vaccine shot, 67.1 million have received the second shots and 37.7 million have received their third shots.

8.6 million children aged 12-17 have received at least one Covid-19 vaccine shot, and 8.1 million have received their second shots.
