Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on November 3 lifted the halt, which has been imposed since July 2020, after a request of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Any imports will still have to comply with the laws and international commitments Vietnam has made.

The 2020 import halt was issued amid a surge of Covid-19 cases in Vietnam. A PM directive at the time ordered the import of wild animals and their eggs, larvae, organs, body parts and other derivatives to cease.

On October 19 this year, the government downgraded Covid-19 to a common infectious disease.
