Vietnam records 218,444 new Covid cases

The Ministry of Health confirmed 218,444 new domestic Covid-19 cases on Thursday, including more than 57,000 cases detected in previous days.

62 cities and provinces recorded more than 160,000 cases, while the extra cases were added by Thanh Hoa, Vinh Phuc and Binh Dinh Provinces.

Thanh Hoa led the list of infections on Thursday, with 31,105 cases, followed by Hanoi with 30,157 and Vinh Phuc with 23,938.

The average number of new infections recorded in the past week is 147,780 cases a day nationwide.

Another 71 deaths were recorded, raising the number of Covid deaths in Vietnam to 41,157, accounting for 0.8 percent of the total number of infections.

In the fourth Covid wave since late April, the number of domestic infections has reached 5,252,942, of which 2,905,548 cases have recovered. The number of severe cases under treatment is 4,044.

Vietnam has administered nearly 200 million vaccine doses.
