Vietnam records 2,821 new Covid-19 cases

The Health Ministry confirmed 2,821 new Covid-19 community transmissions in 21 localities Thursday morning, sending the ongoing wave's caseload to 119,812.

Of the new patients, HCMC recorded 1,715, followed by its neighboring provinces of Binh Dương (406), Long An (179), Dong Nai (159), Tay Ninh (139), and Ba Ria - Vung Tau (52).

The rest were detected in the Mekong Delta's Can Tho City (6) and provinces of Vinh Long (31), Kien Giang (18), Dong Thap (15), An Giang (10), Hau Giang (8) and Bac Lieu (2); central provinces of Dak Lak (37), Khanh Hoa (18), Phu Yen (15), Nghe An (4), Binh Dinh (3), and Dak Nong (2); Hanoi and the northern Lang Son Province (1).

Among the new cases, 2,234 were recorded in quarantine camps and isolated areas while 587 in the community.

Vietnam has recorded local Covid-19 cases in 62 of its 63 cities and provinces since the new wave started over three months ago.

HCMC accounted for most cases, 78,904, followed by Binh Duong with 9,946.

More than 5.2 million people in the country have received Covid vaccination, including 496,630 fully vaccinated with two shots.
