Vietnam confirms 8,163 new local Covid-19 cases

Health authorities reported 8,163 domestic cases of Covid-19 in 52 cities and provinces on Sunday, down 288 against Saturday.

Three localities with the highest number of daily cases are HCMC with 985, An Giang with 695 and Dong Nai with 674.

With the confirmation of 64 deaths, including 22 in HCMC, the Covid-19 death toll in the country rose to 23,082, or 2.2 percent of all infections.

The Health Ministry also confirmed 5,257 recoveries the same day, bringing the total tally of recovered cases so far to 863,311.

By Sunday, 34.6 million of Vietnam's 96-million population have received two Covid-19 vaccine doses.

Since the fourth wave of the pandemic started in late April, Vietnam has recorded 1,020,580 local cases. The tally since the start of the pandemic is 1,026,522, raking 37th out of 223 countries and territories.

Of more than 139,000 patients under treatment, 3,947 are severe cases.
