Vietnam adds 5,149 cases to local Covid tally

Vietnam confirmed another 5,149 local Covid-19 patients in 29 localities Tuesday night, putting the day's tally at 7,911.

Of the new patients, Ho Chi Minh City reported 4,469, followed by its neighboring provinces of Dong Nai (120), Long An (75), and Binh Duong (79).

The remaining cases were recorded in Mekong Delta's Dong Thap (154), Can Tho (54), Soc Trang (22), Hau Giang (3), Kien Giang (2) and Bac Lieu (1); the central region's Binh Thuan (45), Da Nang (26), Phu Yen (23), Ninh Thuan (13), Gia Lai (5), Dak Nong (5), Binh Dinh (4), Thue Thien Hue (4), Quang Nam (3), Quang Ngai (3), Kon Tum (2), Thanh Hoa (1), Ha Tinh (1), Lam Dong (1) and Dak Lak (1); Hanoi (19) and the northern provinces of Vinh Phuc Province (11), Lang Son (2) and Thai Nguyen (1).

Among the new cases, 525 were detected in the community and the rest in isolated areas. Within Tuesday, 1,063 new cases in the community have been recorded nationwide.

With the latest additions, HCMC still leads the infection count with 72,740 confirmed cases, followed by Binh Duong Province with 8,909 in the ongoing wave.

Vietnam entered its fourth wave of Covid-19 community transmission three months ago and since then, 110,436 infections have been registered in 62 of its 63 cities and provinces.

The country discharged 1,602 patients on Tuesday, raising the number of recoveries to 22,946, out of 114,204 infections since the pandemic broke.
