Specifically, tickets would cost VND12,000 for passengers traveling less than 5 km, VND14,000 for 5-10 km, VND16,000 for 10-15 km and VND18,000 for over 15 km.
The proposal states that tickets for unlimited trips would cost VND40,000 ($1.68) per day and VND90,000 for three days, while a monthly pass would cost VND260,000.
Compared to the fares proposed earlier by the HCMC Management Authority for Urban Railways (MAUR), the metro system's builder, the newly proposed fares would be higher for short travel but lower for those who buy one-day tickets for unlimited trips. The proposed monthly pass would also cost less.
The department is collecting feedback from related units before submitting the plan to the city government.
Costing over VND43.7 trillion, the first metro line in HCMC is now 95% complete.
It is set for completion late this year and would then begin its a commercial run next year.
