Boats and ferries from the mainland to the southern islands of Phu Quoc and Con Dao, as well as Phu Quy and Ly Son off the central coast, have been suspended as super typhoon Yagi is expected to hit Vietnam on Saturday.

The Maritime Administration of southern Kien Giang Province, home to Phu Quoc, announced the suspension of high-speed boat services from the mainland to Phu Quoc and Nam Du—both resort islands—and vice versa, as well as boats and ferries to Hon Son, another popular tourist island off Kien Giang's coast. The suspension is effective from Friday until further notice.

Phu Quoc Island is located 120 km from Rach Gia City and 45 km from Ha Tien City. Every day, over 30 high-speed boat trips operate between the mainland and Phu Quoc. Passengers with purchased tickets will be offered refunds or the option to reschedule by the carriers.

Phu Quoc Express JSC has also announced the suspension of boat services from Vung Tau City to Con Dao Island, on Saturday and Sunday due to adverse weather conditions. Typically, there are three weekly trips from Vung Tau to Con Dao.

Boats from Phan Thiet resort town to Phu Quy Island and from Sa Ky Port to Ly Son Island in central Vietnam were also suspended from Friday morning.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting predicts that super typhoon Yagi, with maximum wind speeds of 201 kph, will enter the Gulf of Tonkin Friday night, bringing heavy rain and thunderstorms to the northern region.

The sea area from south-central Binh Thuan Province to Kien Giang is expected to experience scattered showers and thunderstorms, with the possibility of tornadoes. Wind speeds are expected to range from 62 to 74 kph, with waves reaching 2 to 4 meters high.
