Spain has recently arrested two Vietnamese citizens over sexual assault allegations on a 17-year-old girl from the U.K., Spanish police confirmed Friday.

"Two Vietnamese males have been arrested by police of Mallorca Island over sexual assault allegations. One was born in 1980, the other in 1984," said a spokesman of the Mallorca police department. The spokesman however refused to provide their identities and occupations.

The men’s identity and occupations were not revealed, but local reports said they were an actor and a musician.

Further legal proceedings would be decided by the Mallorca court, the spokesman said, adding that they "might have been allowed to be out on bail".

Spanish media reports had earlier cited an announcement by the Directorate-General for Civil Protection and Emergencies that two Vietnamese citizens have been arrested June 25 on Mallorca Island, part of Spain’s Baleares Islands, for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl from the U.K.

The two Vietnamese citizens were "actor, musician", aged 37 and 42, reports said. They were produced before the court on June 28 and released on bail, but had their passports seized by Spanish authorities. The 17-year-old girl gave her statement to the court and it was verified by the police. She and her family left Mallorca on June 28.

The Majorca Daily Bulletin reported that the two Vietnamese citizens stayed at the Sant Elm hotel in Mallorca, while the 17-year-old girl stayed with her family at a different hotel. She met and talked with the Vietnamese men at a restaurant on June 24.

Local media reported that the group exchanged "intimate" gestures before returning to the hotel room of one of the two Vietnamese men. The girl later reported to local police that she was raped in the hotel room. Authorities took the girl to the Son Espases hospital for a check-up and arrested the accused.
