HCMC police arrested a South Korean man Saturday for being involved in a murder case after his friend’s body was found inside a suitcase at a luxury house.

Jeong In Cheol, 35, a company's director who lives in Phu My Hung area in of District 7, was arrested at an apartment in District 2, around five kilometers from the murder scene. He is a friend of the male victim, also a South Korean.

"The investigation agency found a lot of evidence suggesting Cheol might have been directly involved in the murder," HCMC police told VnExpress on Saturday morning.

About three km from Cheol's residence, a four-story house in Him Lam residential area where the body of the victim was found on Friday night was rented by the director a few months ago.

Police seized several camera images showing him taking the victim to his house by car, then leaving alone until the body was discovered.

On Friday night, the landlord came to check after the director suddenly announced he would stop renting the house, and discovered the strong smell of the corpse. There was a suspicious pink suitcase inside a toilet on the second floor with blood stains on the floor. Inside the suitcase was a large black plastic bag, containing body parts.

The landlord quickly informed local police who blocked the scene to carry out an autopsy to investigate the cause of the death.
