A South Korean man in the northern province of Bac Ninh was detained Wednesday after losing company funds at a casino.

Yang Young Jin, 46, is being investigated by Bac Ninh police for "abuse of trust to appropriate property."

Yang said he has lived in Vietnam since 2001 and has a family here. He works for a South Korean firm based in Bac Ninh and was entrusted with $55,000 for management by the company director, also a South Korean.

From July 25 to 28, Yang spent all the money gambling at a casino. When the money ran out, he hid in a relative’s home in Ho Chi Minh City’s Phu Nhuan District.

Police found Yang on Nov. 9. Authorities said he admitted to his crime and requested police to buy him a plane ticket to Hanoi.
