Rare 3-meter-long Burmese python found in HCMC canal

The Ho Chi Minh City Forest Protection Department took the snake to a wildlife rescue center.

The python, with a long head and yellow stripes along a black lean body, was discovered by a 75-year-old woman as it slithered near the canal in An Phu Dong Ward Friday night.

She called out to people and they teamed up to catch it and put it in a cage.

According to the rangers, the Burmese python (Python bivittatus) weighed more than 10 kg and was about 3 meters long.

The snake is native to a large area of Southeast Asia and is listed as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List. It belongs to an endangered, rare and precious wildlife species in group IIB of Vietnam's Red List.

In September, a reticulated python found on a tree at a HCMC high school was also handed over to forest rangers.
