Police slam rumors about tycoon 'ban' on traveling abroad

Police are investigating the source of a rumor that the leader of an "influential" business has been prevented from traveling abroad.

According to the Ministry of Public Security, the information is "inaccurate."

Lieutenant General To An Xo, the ministry's spokesperson, said Monday that some social media users have been spreading "false information about the head of a business who has an influence on the stock market, securities and corporate bonds."

The ministry urged the public not to believe the rumor or spread it further.

Hanoi lawyer Nguyen Duc Thinh said people who, on social networks, provide or share false information, distort, slander, or insult an organization's reputation, honor, and dignity of individuals or disseminate or share fabricated information that causes confusion among the public face a fine of VND10-20 million (US$430-860).
