All children aged 5-11 should be vaccinated against Covid-19 within the second quarter, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested the health ministry.

Following their vaccination, the children will begin summer school in the beginning of the third quarter, then enter the new school year at the end of the third quarter, the government office cited Chinh as saying on Tuesday.

The Ministry of Health on Monday said the first batch of Covid-19 vaccine for children aged 5-12 will arrive in Vietnam on May 10, a donation from Australia. Vaccination will begin as soon as the vaccines arrive, it added.

10 million children aged 5-12 have yet to be vaccinated in Vietnam. The country has fully vaccinated 79.7 percent of its population, including children from 12 years old, with 51.8 percent also getting a third shot.
