General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee To Lam and his spouse Ngo Phuong Ly departed from Hanoi on Sunday morning for a four-day state visit to South Korea, which is made at an invitation of Korean President Lee Jae Myung.

This is the first state visit to South Korea by General Secretary Lam in his current position.

It will offer an opportunity for the two sides to engage in in-depth strategic discussions, identify directions and measures to develop their relations in a substantive, comprehensive, and effective manner.

At the same time, it will open up new development orientations in important and potential areas of collaboration, especially science and technology and innovation, thereby bringing practical benefits to the two countries' people and contributing to peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region and the world.

Vietnam and South Korea established diplomatic relations on December 22, 1992, and upgraded to the highest level of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2022.

South Korea also ranks second in development cooperation with a commitment to support $4 billion by 2030. Bilateral trade turnover reached $81.5 billion in 2024, up 7.3% compared to 2023.

Vietnam has invested in 112 projects in South Korea with a total capital of $37.4 million.
