The 13th Party Central Committee has agreed for Dinh Tien Dung, former minister of finance, to be relieved of his current positions as a member of the Politburo.

The decision was made at the Party Central Committee’s meeting in Hanoi on June 21 to discuss personnel affairs.

According to a report from the Party Central Committee's Inspection Commission, during his 2016-2021 term as Secretary of the Party Civil Affairs Committee of the Ministry of Finance and Minister of Finance, Dung violated regulations on what Party members must not do, rules on the responsibility of setting examples, and working regulations.

He was found to have neglected his leadership and direction responsibilities, letting the Party Civil Affairs Committee, the Ministry of Finance, and some organisations and individuals commit violations and shortcomings, cause severe consequences and negative public opinions, and harm the credibility of the Party organisation and state management agency.

Fully being aware of his responsibilities before the Party, the people, Dung submitted an application to cease holding the assigned positions and to stop working.

Based on the current regulations of the Party and the State and considering his wish, the Party Central Committee agreed to let Dung cease holding positions as a member of the Political Bureau and member of the 13th Party Central Committee.

Dung, 63, served as finance minister from June 2013 to March 2021. From April 2021, he was the secretary of Hanoi's Party Committee.

Also at the meeting, the Party Central Committee gave opinions on personnel for the Political Bureau to recommend to the 15th National Assembly for election to the 15th NA Standing Committee.
