A SUV plowed into three cars and eight motorbikes in Ha Dong District on Thursday night, killing a woman.

At around 9 p.m. the Hyundai Santa Fe SUV hit two cars parked in front of a house at 15 Ngo Thi Nham Street before plowing into a military car and eight motorbikes that were waiting at a red light at the corner with Quang Trung Street.

"I heard a very loud bang, and when I rushed out I saw vehicles fallen all over the place and people crying out," an eyewitness said.

The accident killed a woman, 46, and injured five others.

According to the police, the SUV was driven by Ha Thanh Hung, 45, a native of the northern Yen Bai Province who lives and works in Hanoi.

Eyewitnesses said the driver seemed drunk. They said the consequences could have been much more serious if his car had not hit the military car.

He has been arrested for further investigation.
