There have been days when the capital city's airport received 233 international flights carrying over 38,000 visitors, breaking a previous record set in 2019.
In the week after the Lunar New Year holiday, the airport has served 94,100 visitors a day, a 19% increase from the previous week.
The number of international visitors alone has increased by 14%, to an average of 36,000 a day, which was higher than the previous record during the Tet holiday in 2019 by around 2,000 visitors.
The Civil Aviation Authority reported that domestic airlines transported 633,000 passengers on international routes during the seven-day Tet holiday from Feb. 8-14, an increase of 49% compared to the same period last year.
The Airports Corporation of Vietnam has launched a project to expand the T2 terminal, increasing its capacity from 10 million to 15 million visitors a year. The project is expected to be completed in 2026.
