Two people in the Mekong Delta's Tra Vinh Province were arrested on Monday for creating and sharing Facebook posts that undermine the reputation of local authorities.

Thach Cuong, 36, and To Hoang Chuong, 37, both of whom live in Cau Ngang District, are being accused of abusing democratic freedoms to infringe upon the interests of the State and the lawful rights and interests of organizations and/or citizens, Tra Vinh police announced.

Since 2020, Cuong and Chuong have been posting and sharing content on their personal Facebook accounts that has contained untrue and fabricated information which has undermined the reputation of local authorities, police reported.

The two also produced, disseminated and used thousands of documents and items that contain propaganda for reactionary forces, according to local authorities. Both of them have been fined numerous times in the past for such violations.
