The Hanoi police have arrested a man who, apparently crazed by his inability to get a girlfriend, knifed or otherwise assaulted random women on the street.

Tran Le Huy, 31, is being held for intentionally causing injuries, they said Monday.

In the afternoon on Nov. 3 he rode a motorbike into an alley off Phuc Tan Street in Hoan Kiem District and grazed a 45-year-old woman in the back of her head with a knife.

He stabbed another woman on her face on nearby Tran Quang Khai Street, and, in both cases, fled immediately afterward.

He has a criminal record and was only recently released from prison.

After getting out of jail he reportedly propositioned several women, but they all turned him down.

So he resented women and wanted to hurt them, the police claimed.

On Oct. 25 he hit a woman with a brick on Thai Phien Street in Hai Ba Trung District.

Two days later he hit another woman with a brick on Ngo Quyen Street in Hoan Kiem District.

On Nov. 2 and Nov. 3, in front of Trang Tien Plaza, he hit a 14-year-old girl in her face with a light bulb and a woman with a wooden stick.

In all he assaulted 10 people he randomly met on the streets, nine of them women, the police said.

In other cases, he stabbed the victims with a knife and put a knife against their necks. None of the victims was killed but suffered injuries at different levels.

It is not clear if he has any mental health issues.
