The investor of the five-star hotel Merperle Dalat Hotel, the largest hotel in Da Lat, was fined VND110 million ($4,482) for building the facility larger than it was approved for.

The Khai Vy company, the hotel’s main investor, was fined per a decision issued by the Da Lat People’s Committee on Oct. 18. Authorities have demanded the firm stop the construction of infrastructure without approval from authorities. If an approval is not secured after 90 days, the company will have to dismantle any construction currently in violation of regulation.

The Merperle Dalat Hotel is in the center of the Central Highlands' Da Lat City. Its predecessor was the Saigon Moi Hotel, which was constructed in 2009. In 2018, the hotel was transferred over to Khai Vy, and a new 10-floor hotel was built at the location, with two basements and over 400 5-star hotel rooms. The total investment cost has been reported at VND1 trillion, and the hotel is in its completion phase.

On Oct, 11, the project was found to span 4,450 m2 of floor area more than what was approved. The extra floor areas are in the two basements and the roof of the structure. Previously on Auu. 18, the company requested adjusting the designed area of the project equal to the amount of area that exceeded what was approved. The request was accepted by the Lam Dong Provincial People’s Committee, but it has asked the firm not to remove certain beams and affect the structure’s quality.

The Department of Finance was instructed to cooperate with relevant entities to make sure the company fulfills its financial responsibilities after changing the functions and expanding the area of the project.
