Average Vietnamese need to be paid for about 55.6 days' work to afford an iPhone 15 Pro, according to a report by international e-commerce platform Picodi.

That's at least three months of straight full-time work for most people here.

The iPhone Index 2023, an annual index of iPhone price-to-wage ratios, listed Vietnam as among the top five countries and territories where people would need to spend the highest number of working days to afford an iPhone 15 Pro (128 GB).

The 55.6 working days were calculated using the price of the latest phone model by Apple in Vietnam, VND28.999 million ($1,200), and the average monthly net wage in the country, VND10.96 million, according to data from compiler Numbeo.

The report said people in Turkey would need to spend the highest number of working days, 123.7 on average, to afford an iPhone 15 Pro. Meanwhile, people in Switzerland only need to spend 4.2 working days on average to afford one, making the country number one on the list.

However, data from Vietnam's General Statistics Office in April stated that the average monthly salary for people in Vietnam was around VND7 million. With this figure, it would take around 87 working days on average for a Vietnamese to afford an iPhone 15 Pro instead. That is the equivalent of over four months' working full time while saving every dong paid and spending nothing.

Apple on Wednesday (Hanoi time) revealed its four latest iPhone 15 models, with their USB-C connection, higher-resolution cameras and titanium cases among their new features. The latest iPhones should go on sale in Vietnam starting September 29, with prices ranging from VND22.99 million to VND46.99 million.
