Several downtown roads in HCMC will be closed to traffic Saturday evening for a fireworks display to celebrate the 47th Reunification Day.

From 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Nguyen Hue Street in District 1 will be closed off.

From 8 p.m. vehicles cannot enter some other roads including Nguyen Tat Thanh in District 4 and the tunnel under the Sai Gon River.

There will be 15-minute high-altitude pyrotechnics from 9 p.m. at the Thu Thiem Tunnel between Districts 1 and 2 and Dam Sen Park in District 11.

Last year authorities had scrapped the fireworks shows and all other public events as the fourth wave of coronavirus had begun. It has caused over 10.3 million infections and 42,000 deaths so far.

There will be a four-day holiday for Reunification Day and Labor Day (April 30 and May 1) since they both fall on the weekend.
