Bac Giang, Vietnam's biggest coronavirus hotspot last May, has seen 99.9 percent of its Covid-19 patients recover.

The northern province's Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control said 5,775 coronavirus cases in Bac Giang have recovered and been discharged as of Aug. 7, leaving only eight active cases at Bac Giang General Hospital.

The active cases are mostly mild and asymptomatic, the committee said.

Bac Giang has gone nearly a month without recording a Covid-19 community transmission. It has administered around 322,577 Covid-19 vaccine shots, accounting for around 17.9 percent of its population.

All industrial parks and businesses in the province are now operational, with 146,912 workers employed by 369 businesses and at six industrial parks.

Bac Giang was the nation's biggest coronavirus hotspot in the fourth coronavirus wave that struck Vietnam in late April, before the spot was claimed by Ho Chi Minh City on July 4.

Vietnam has now recorded 196,755 local Covid-19 cases in the fourth wave, with HCMC recording 117,906.
