A group of workers in northern Quang Ninh Province were working when a sinkhole suddenly appeared, swallowing up one worker.

On Friday, the Vietnam Mechanical and Machine Installation Company, a local company and the authorities were reportedly looking for Ngo Van Quan, 33, who fell into the hole in Mao Khe Ward of Dong Trieu Town.

Previously on June 3, the workers of the machine installation company were reinforcing equipment for a Mao Khe thermoelectric factory when a sinkhole, spanning 4 m in diameter and 10 m deep, appeared.

Following the incident, workers discovered that Quan was missing. They suspected he had fallen down the hole and been buried.

Authorities then barricaded the area and launched a search, but Quan has still not been found.

Numerous sinkholes have appeared in Quang Ninh due to the presence of underground erosion.
