Vietnamese students won several awards in their maiden appearance at the VEX Robotics World Championship in the U.S.

In the secondary schools category, a team from Pennsylvania American International School in HCMC won the Inspire Award while one from Trung Vuong Secondary School in Hanoi won the Sportsmanship Award.

At the primary school level, three Hanoi teams from Vinschool, Archimedes and True North, Delta Global won the Design Award, Innovate Award and Third Place Award.

Dr Tran Viet Hung, cofounder of STEAM for Vietnam, a U.S. non-profit organization founded and operated by Vietnamese professionals and students all over the world, admitted the result was "unexpected" since the Vietnamese teams had merely hoped to learn from the event.

The VEX Robotics World Championship, arguably the world’s largest of its kind, was held from April 25 and May 4 in Dallas, Texas State, with more than 30,000 students from 50 countries and territories.

More than 130 awards were given away.

The U.S. embassy in Hanoi, STEAM for Vietnam, and the Hanoi University of Technology had held a qualifying event in Vietnam in March to select the teams for the global contest.
