Hue will replace former Deputy PM and Hanoi Party Secretary Hoang Trung Hai, who received a warning from the Politburo last month over violations in overseeing the functioning of state-owned steel company TISCO (TISCO II project).
Vuong Dinh Hue, 63, a native of the central province of Nghe An Province, is a professor with a doctorate degree in economics. He's been a member of the 10th and 11th Party Central Committee, member of the 12th Politburo, the Communist Party's decision-making body, and delegate of the 13th and 14th National Assembly.
Hue served the Academy of Finance in Hanoi for 22 years, holding several senior positions including head of the Accounting Department and deputy principal of the academy in charge of training affairs.
During this period, he spent four years (1986-1990) as a research fellow at Slovakia’s University of Economics in Bratislava.
Hue was appointed Deputy Head of the State Audit Office of Vietnam in July 2001. He became its head in 2006.
He was Vietnam’s Minister of Finance from August 2011 to May 2013, the head of the Central Economic Commission from December 12 to April 2016, and has been a Deputy Prime Minister from April 2016.
