Illegal portions of a hotel and apartment complex owned by property giant Muong Thanh in central coast Da Nang City will be demolished starting April 6.

Authorities in Ngu Hanh Son District, home to Muong Thanh Grand Da Nang, a 4-star property, on Son Tra Peninsula, announced the decision Wednesday, stating a team of 150 would dismantle unlicensed portions on the second, third, fourth, fifth, 35th, 41st, and 42nd floors, two technical floors and the roof floor.

The operation would be carried out in two phases, scheduled for completion in six months.

During the first phase from April 6 to June 30, personnel will demolish illegal portions from the second to fifth floors while the remainder would be removed during the second phase from July 1 to the end of September.

The dismantling will be paid for by Dien Bien Private Construction Company No. 1, investor of the complex.

On March 20, district authorities will inform illegal building residents of their intention. A day later, electricity and water would be cut.

Authorities in the central city discovered in 2018 the investor of Muong Thanh Grand Da Nang had illegally transformed a parking lot, kindergarten and community area from the second to fifth floors into 104 apartment units.

It replaced an emergency exit on the 35th floor with eight apartments, and illegally built two more floors to store technical equipment instead of keeping these on the 41st and 42nd floor, where it built 49 more apartments.

It also merged five apartments on the 25th floor into one.

A licensed rooftop measuring 531 square meters was also illegally enlarged to 2,129 square meters.

In October 2019, Da Nang authorities ordered the demolition of the illegally built portions in Muong Thanh but plans were later delayed due to complications with the contractor.

Muong Thanh is a major hospitality chain operating almost 60 hotels across the country with a capacity of over 10,000 rooms.
