Da Nang will resume rail and flight services since it has managed to bring the Covid-19 outbreak under control, authorities said Thursday.

On October 1 the Vietnam Railway Authority wrote to 22 provinces and cities, including Da Nang, about a plan to resume transportation activities.

They include running the SE21/SE22 trains on the Da Nang - Saigon route from October 15.

Da Nang was the first locality to give consent on Thursday, and after the others respond it would announce train schedules and requirements for passengers on pandemic prevention measures, the Vietnam Railway Authority said.

Also on Thursday the Da Nang People's Committee informed the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam that the city would resume flights within this month though at lower frequencies to hubs like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Late last month the Ministry of Transport outlined a plan on resuming transportation for localities without stringent lockdowns. The resumption of domestic flights in particular would be divided into four phases, with each phase allowing greater flight frequencies before reaching normal levels.

Da Nang, which has had over 4,900 Covid-19 cases in the fourth wave that began in April, has largely brought the pandemic under control.

It has already allowed local public buses and taxis to ply again.
