Police in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai are looking for a local woman who tricked and trafficked five people from Myanmar to Laos and sold them to an online human trafficking ring.

Vu Thi Khanh Huyen, 25, a resident of Gia Lai’s Duc Co District, is now wanted for "human trafficking," police said Monday.

According to a report filed by the five victims, aged 23-26, Huyen convinced them to go to work in Myanmar between November 2022 and June last year.

She promised them that she would hire them to work for a cosmetics company she owns and runs.

The five agreed and Huyen helped them to make passports.

After that, they bought ticket flights and went to Myanmar's capital Yangon last year.

However, Huyen then collected their passports and put them in a car and trafficked them into Laos.

When in Laos, she sold the five to illegal companies where they were locked up and forced to commit online fraud by tricking others into gambling online and defrauding players' money.

Anyone who did not fulfill tasks as requested was tortured in different ways.

If they wanted to return home, it was demanded they pay a ransom of VND210 million to the ring.

The five reached out to their families to get the money and eventually got back home safely.

After learning she had been reported to the police, Huyen fled immediately.

Gia Lai police said in a warrant that anyone seeing Huyen was authorized to arrest her and contact the police.
