Le Thanh Thuan, 25, was put under criminal investigation for fraud charges on Saturday, several days after he was caught.
Investigators said that Thuan went on Facebook Dating and advertised himself as a broker for "sugar daddies," asking people who wanted to be "sugar babies" to contact him. The terms are codes for rich men and younger women who provide them with companionship and sexual intimacy in return for gifts and financial support.
Women who contacted him were promised large sums of money.
Thuan then posed as a sugar daddy and asked the women, one by one, to drive motorbikes to meet him at a local bank.
He introduced himself as the bank’s employee and pretended to be caught in an urgent task, asking the woman to help drive him to another bank office.
At the second bank office, he asked the woman to wait at the gate and borrowed their motorbike to drive inside, only to disappear via the back gate.
Thuan was caught red-handed in one such act on Dec. 12.
He admitted to stealing from at least six women, saying he was in debt and needed money.
Police have collected the six motorbikes stolen by Thuan and are calling for the victims to show up and help with the investigation.
