Several audience members fainted during a crowded New Year’s music concert in the central province of Thua Thien Hue Sunday evening.

At 10 p.m. those who fainted were taken by ambulances to a local hospital. Six other ambulances were put on standby near Hung Vuong Road, where the celebratory year-end concert had attracted thousands of people beginning at 7 p.m.

Local authorities have not confirmed how many people were taken to the hospital.

After the incident, police set up barriers to block people from entering the concert to prevent overload.

But many young people still tried to bypass police to enter the concert.
