A man returning from Angola was confirmed Vietnam’s latest Covid-19 case Wednesday, taking the national tally to 1,173.

"Patient 1173" is a 43-year old man from Ha Tinh Province who landed October 20 at the Van Don International Airport in the northern province of Quang Ninh on Vietnam Airlines flight VN8.

He is the 14th person on this flight to test positive for the novel coronavirus. Quarantined upon arrival in the northern province of Bac Ninh, he is being treated at the provincial general hospital.

Of Vietnam’s 1,173 Covid-19 patients, 1,062 have recovered and 35 have died.

The active patients are all in stable condition, with 16 having tested negative for the virus at least once.

Vietnam has gone 55 days without a community transmission.

Nearly 15,000 people are quarantined – 13,000 in quarantine facilities, 170 in hospitals and the rest at home or other designated accommodations.

The Covid-19 pandemic has claimed over 1.1 million lives globally.
