An eighth grader in Hanoi sustained life-threatening brain injuries after being beaten by a 10th grader over a quarrel while playing basketball 10 days ago.

The Long Bien District police are investigating the case, and have arrested 16-year-old Truong Van Minh, the 10th grader, for deliberately inflicting harm on a person.

On March 17 the eighth grader at Viet Hung Middle School was playing basketball at the Le Mat communal yard when he quarreled with a 12-year-old boy.

The latter ran back home to fetch his older brother, Minh, who punched the boy in the face.

The boy was taken to Duc Giang Hospital before being transferred to Military Hospital 108.

He was diagnosed with traumatic brain injury and placed on oxygen support.

He remains in precarious condition.

His family took him back home to Phu Tho Wednesday to continue treatment.
