Policemen and border guards at around 9:15 p.m. Wednesday arrested Van Ngoc Duc, 29, Tran Xuan Tam, 41 and Doan Tran, 49.
Tran previously carried 11 kg of meth on a motorbike from Khe Sanh Town at Laos border to deliver it to Duc and Tam on a section of the National Highway 9 running through Cam Lo District, the Cong An TPHCM (HCMC Police) newspaper reported.
Later at around 6 p.m. Thursday, authorities raided Tam’s residence in Quang Tri's Dong Ha Town and found 10 packets of white crystals, weighing around 10 kg. Tam said the crystals were meth.
An investigation is ongoing.
Vietnam has some of the world’s toughest drug laws. Those convicted of possessing or smuggling more than 600 grams of heroin or cocaine or over 2.5 kg of methamphetamine could face capital punishment.
The production or sale of 100 grams of heroin or 300 grams of any other illegal substance is also punishable by death.
