The index closed 3.5 points higher after after losing 15 points on Thursday.
Trading on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE) downed by 9% to VND21.7 trillion ($894.29 million).
The VN-30 basket, comprising the 30 largest capped stocks, saw 17 tickers gain.
VHM of property giant Vinhomes gained 3.4%, followed by PDR of Phat Dat Real Estate Development with 3% rise.
Meanwhile, VIC of private conglomerate Vingroup dropped 3.4%. SAB of brewer Sabeco fell 2.5% and MWG of electronics retail chain Mobile World closed 2.4% lower.
Foreign investors were net buyers to the tune of VND120 billion, mainly buying VHM of property giant Vinhomes and PDR of Phat Dat Real Estate Development.
The HNX-Index at the Hanoi Stock Exchange, where mid and small caps list, was up 0.36% while the UPCoM-Index at the Unlisted Public Companies Market rose by 0.12%.
