The iPhone 17 Pro Max 256GB is now sold at VND37.3 million (US$1,417) by some Apple-authorized retailers in Vietnam, a 1.3% decrease from last month and 1.8% from the launch price.

The 2TB version is down 1.6% since launch to VND63 million.

The price cuts are on the cosmic orange and deep blue variants, while the silver version remains largely unchanged.

Dealers attribute the price decrease to changing consumer preferences. Initially, the cosmic orange model was in great demand due to its novelty, leading to supply shortages and rising prices.

But the silver variant has since become the preferred choice, with its price increasing by several million dong on the black market due to limited availability, Dan Tri newspaper reported.

Retailers said the 17 Pro Max, released three months ago, has become the highest-grossing iPhone model with most consumers opting for the 256GB or 512GB storage variants.

Despite being available only since late September, the 17 Pro Max ranked 10th in the list of best-selling devices in Q3, according to Counterpoint Research's Global Handset Model Sales Tracker.

The surge in demand was due to a large number of people who bought iPhones during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2019-21 now seeking upgrades, Counterpoint added.
