The index closed 5.30 points higher after dropping 2.60 points in the previous session.
Trading on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange increased by 14% to VND12.90 trillion ($524 million).
The VN-30 basket, comprising the 30 largest capped stocks, saw 19 tickers gained.
GVR of Vietnam Rubber Group led with a 2.6% rise, followed by ACB of Asia Commercial Bank, up 1.9%.
HDB of HDBank gained 1.2% and BID of state-owned lender BIDV closed 1.1% higher.
Eight blue chips fell. SAB of brewer Sabeco dropped 2.6% and MSN of conglomerate Masan Group fell 1.5% lower.
Foreign investors were net buyers to the tune of VND235 billion, mainly buying HPG of steelmaker Hoa Phat Group and HSG of steelmaker Hoa Sen Group.
The HNX-Index for stocks on the Hanoi Stock Exchange, home to mid and small caps, rose 0.40%, while the UPCoM-Index for the Unlisted Public Companies Market went up 0.02%.
