VN-Index posts biggest single-day gain year-to-date

Vietnam's benchmark VN-Index rose 2.05% to 1,270.51 points Wednesday, the biggest single day gain this year.

The index closed 25.51 points higher after gaining 9.51 points in the previous session.

Trading on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange increased by 27% to VND26.292 trillion (US$1.065 billion).

The VN-30 basket, comprising the 30 largest capped stocks, saw 29 tickers gained.

FPT of technology giant FPT Corporation led with a 4.6% growth, SSI of leading brokerage SSI Securities Corporation surged 4.5%, and MWG of electronics retail chain Mobile World went up 3.9%

One blue chip fell. VJC of private airline Vietjet Aviation Joint Stock Company decreased by 0.3%.

Foreign investors were net seller to the tune of VND461 billion, mainly selling VNM of dairy giant Vinamilk and state-owned lender Vietcombank.

The HNX-Index for stocks on the Hanoi Stock Exchange, home to mid and small caps, rose 1.78%, while the UPCoM-Index for the Unlisted Public Companies Market went up 0.84%.
