Filipino cuisine 25th best in the world, behind Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailand: TasteAtlas

In Southeast Asia, the Filipino cuisine cuisine is rated better than Malaysia at 29th, Singapore at 90th and Laos at 96th in the ranking, which was based on 590,228 valid ratings for 18,912 foods in TasteAtlas's database.

TasteAtlas recommended diners to try must-have dishes in the Philippines such as sinigang (sour soup), Inasal na manok (unique Filipino grilled chicken dish), Bangus (milkfish), Lumpiang Shanghai (crispy pork spring rolls), adobo, a beloved pork or chicken dish known for its savory and tangy flavors, and Bulalô, a light colored soup which is made by cooking beef shanks and bone marrow.

Some iconic traditional restaurants are Original Pares Mami House (Quezon City), Locavore (Pasig), Ulli's Streets of Asia (Cebu City), Tres Cuisine (Quezon City) and Sebastian's Ice Cream (Quezon City).

Indonesia has been ranked 10th on TasteAtlas's list of the world's 100 best cuisines this year, the highest among Southeast Asian countries.

Vietnamese cuisine was the second best in Southeast Asia, ranking 16th globally, followed by Thai cuisine which ranks 24th globally.

Founded in 2015, TasteAtlas links 9,000 local restaurants and showcases tens of thousands of dishes based on reviews and research by culinary experts, chefs, and users.

The site serves as a global map of traditional dishes made from local ingredients and aims to celebrate great food, foster pride in culinary traditions, and spark curiosity about dishes unfamiliar to many tourists.

Last year, Filipino President Ferdinand Marcos Jr called on his compatriots to tell foreign tourists about their cuisine to enhance its reputation since most visitors to Southeast Asia only remember Vietnam's pho noodle soup and Thailand's tom yum hot and sour soup.
