The index closed 5.5 points higher after losing 2.6 points in the previous session.
Trading on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange increased by 18% to VND27.52 trillion ($1.1 million).
The VN-30 basket, comprising the 30 largest capped stocks, saw 15 tickers gained and 13 fell.
GVR of Vietnam Rubber Group led with a 7% surge, followed by GAS of state-owned Petrovietnam Gas, up 2.4%.
POW of electricity producer Petrovietnam Power Corporation went up 1.8% and BCM of Becamex Investment and Industrial Development closed 1.7% higher.
Thirteen blue chips fell. STB of Ho Chi Minh City-based lender Sacombank dropped 3.8% and VIB of Vietnam International Commercial Bank closed 0.8% lower.
Foreign investors were net sellers to the tune of VND463 billion, mainly selling ACB of Asia Commercial Bank and VNM of dairy giant Vinamilk.
The HNX-Index for stocks on the Hanoi Stock Exchange, home to mid and small caps, rose 1.24% while the UPCoM-Index for the Unlisted Public Companies Market went up 0.08%.
