It gained 1.3 points after gaining 35.8 points Thursday.
Trading on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE), on which the index is based, rose 5.28% to VND15.41 trillion ($627.25 million).
The VN30 basket, comprising the 30 largest capped stocks, saw 10 tickers gained.
TCB of the largest private lender Techcombank rose 5.6%, followed by MWG of electronics retail chain Mobile World, up 5.3%.
VRE of retail real estate arm Vincom Retail gained 4.9% and HDB of HDBank closed 4.3% lower.
Seventeen tickers fell, including SSB of SeABank, down 6.4%, and VPB of private lender VPBank, down 2.5%.
Foreign investors were net buyers to the tune of VND264 billion, mainly buying MWG of electronics retail chain Mobile World and VCB of state-owned lender Vietcombank.
The HNX-Index for stocks on the Hanoi Stock Exchange, home to mid and small caps, fell 0.10% while the UPCoM-Index for the Unlisted Public Companies Market gained 0.23%.
